Nestled in the vibrant heart of Windsor at 504 Pelissier St, The Squirrel Cage is a charming restaurant that perfectly captures the essence of a cozy, artsy brunch spot. Known for its warm, inviting atmosphere punctuated by local artwork and its proximity to Windsor’s famous graffiti alley, this café offers not just a meal but an experience that stimulates all the senses.
The culinary focus here is on classic comfort dishes with a creative twist, rooted in brunch favorites that are as hearty as they are delicious. Among the highlights, the Eggs Benedict stands out with perfectly poached eggs smothered in silky hollandaise sauce, balanced by rich, savory undertones. The Breakfast Poutine is a must-try — a decadent symphony of crispy fries layered with melted cheese curds, gravy, and topped with eggs, bringing a Canadian staple to the brunch table with irresistible flair.
For those craving something a little different, the French Toast Pancakes with Blueberries deliver a delicate sweetness, where fluffy pancakes get a luxurious makeover with a blueberry-infused twist. Fans of savory sandwiches will find their match in the Beefy Panini or the Windsor Sandwich, each packed with bold, fresh ingredients layered on perfectly toasted bread. The Crouque Monsieur, rich with melted cheese and ham, offers a traditional French café vibe that pairs beautifully with their smoothly brewed coffee and decadent mocha.
The Squirrel Cage also offers delightful daily specials like the Quiche of the Day, soups such as the creamy Cream of Mushroom or hearty Bean and Bacon Soup, and lighter options like the Chicken Salad and Veggie Panini, thoughtfully crafted to please both comfort food lovers and health-conscious diners alike.
But what truly sets The Squirrel Cage apart are its genuine customer experiences. Patrons like Kim Kaye describe it as a “cozy place with friendly staff and an artsy vibe,” perfectly capturing the atmosphere that welcomes guests in for a laid-back yet elevated brunch. Sunshine praises the generous portions and exceptional service, elevating this spot to a “must” on any Windsor food lover’s list. The buzz around the place is well earned, as Michael Ostoforoff notes the smooth coffee blend and excellent food make it a busy and beloved weekend destination, so planning ahead is wise.

From the first comforting bite of their classic breakfast dishes to the last sip of a perfectly brewed mocha, this restaurant invites you to indulge in familiar flavors elevated by care and passion, all within a genuinely welcoming space that reflects the creative spirit of Windsor itself.
Loved everything about this place! Had a great brunch (it really did fill me up), the staff was friendly, the place is cozy with some art displayed. The locations is very artsy since it’s close to the graffiti alley.

Amazing ambience. A cozy place for a quite sunday brunch. Amazing food.. love the French toast dipped in pan cake batter.
So, we loved the name and the reviews were good... we were not disappointed! The classic Eggs Benedict and the Breakfast Poutine were excellent. The coffee was a delightfully smooth blend. The service was awesome. Prices are reasonable too. The place got real busy after we arrived at about 10:30 on a Saturday so best to plan ahead for this popular spot!
We had a wonderful experience at the Squirrel Cage and highly recommend. The food came out hot and delicious. The drinks were well made and the waitress was attentive and kind.
The squirrels breakfast or the dog cage?? I don’t know… pick a damn name. Good food, eggs Benedict is up to par. However, 15 minutes to wait for the bill and an extra 10 for change is kinda ridiculous. Also put a sign on your door “please use other door” with an arrow is not hard to do. As well, if you’re going to have white chairs… wipe them down.
Haven't been to squirrel cage since before the pandemic. They are no longer in the dark grayish building. They are now in the white building next door that is a dog's breakfast. Both places are now in the same white building. The menu is the same for both places ( nothing different). I did not see french toast on the menu anymore. The salmon eggs benedict was delicious as in the past. Only thing they now put it on this tiny narrow plate. Half the time I was worried that it would fall off the plate while cutting. They also no longer include salad with the eggs benedict. You have to pay extra now for the salad. Not alot of breakfast options. They have other things like burgers, sandwiches, fries and poutine. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The entrance is the middle door not the 2 other doors on either side. Kinda hard to conversate since it was quite noisey in the building on a saturday morning. Street meter parking on pelissier st. Other parking lots nearby. I prefer the other building. It was an interesting setup and decore.
